“You Got Busch Blood”: Kyle Busch Used His NASCAR Success to Tame Son Brexton’s Childish Antics

NASCAR racing has been a family sport, with future generations carrying on their family legacy and elevating it to new heights. In Kyle Busch’s case, his father Tom was the one who sowed the seeds of racing in the Busch household. Having won 2 Cup Series championships and around 230 National Series wins, Rowdy has etched himself in the history of NASCAR.

However, it looks like his 9-year-old son Brexton is looking to carry the baton and keep his family’s racing legacy alive. Truth be told, he is already creating quite a name for himself on the dirt tracks, with more than 30 wins to his name across 11 different tracks. Now it wasn’t always easy for Rowdy to get his son geared up for this new challenge, but his motivation and mentorship helped Brexton big time.

Kyle Busch spills the beans on how he manages to keep Brexton in line

Auto racing is a competitive sport where the absolute best of the best make it to the top. It can be tough for parents to get the young racers to focus on the racecraft and adopt discipline. However, Rowdy had a trick up his sleeves in getting Brexton ready for his racing pursuits, and it’s working in their favor.

Sharing the tidbits on how he manages to keep his son in line and focused on his racing, Busch while speaking on MAVTV said, “You know I tell him all the time, I’m like you got the Busch blood man, like you’re better than the rest of the guys, you’re good, you’re golden, you don’t need to worry about anything else. Just take that and run with it, you know. He’s bought into that a little bit.”

Brexton is indeed making waves with his racing exploits. He is on the podium regularly at the Millbridge Speedway, and at the same time, he’s even managed to get hold of sponsors in Servpro at such a tender age. Kyle Busch deserves all the credit for Brexton’s steady rise as a racer and going by his words, his past achievements have helped him get a clear message across to his son.

“I’ve gone to these go-kart tracks across the country and raced with him in junior sprints and whatever else. The dads always come to me and they go, How do you get your kid to listen to you? and I’m like, I don’t know you; he just does. Like the accolades speak for themselves, I think he respects that,” Busch added.

Busch has big plans for his Brexton that could see him breakthrough at the NASCAR level. And if everything pans out well, it might allow Rowdy to hang up his boots from competitive racing.

Brexton Busch might help kickstart a KBM revival

At 39, Busch is still in his prime years of competitive racing. But he can certainly count the years on his finger on how long he could continue to do so. When pressed on the question about his retirement, Rowdy has always hinted that once Brexton breaks through in the Truck Series, he will be able to step down. But the journey from sprint racing to stock car isn’t an easy one, even for someone like Brexton. And that is why Kyle Busch has curated a roadmap for his son.

“I want to keep him on the dirt and asphalt realm; I don’t feel like you should go one way or the other. I like what we’re doing right now. He gets in his Bandolero car and he knows what he’s got to do on pavement; he gets into his dirt car and he knows what he’s got to do on dirt. So I really like that. We’ll probably stick with some of that mixture. And then by 16, he’ll be ready for some Trucks.” Busch said this in an interview with Jeff Gluck.

Rowdy’s initial plans would’ve been to see Brexton jump into one of the Trucks at Kyle Busch Motorsports. However, he sold the entire racing team along with the race shop to his friend and Spire Motorsport’s co-owner, Jeff Dickerson, last year. But with Brexton climbing the ranks, KBM just might be able to breathe a new life once he makes it at the Truck Series level.
