On Monday, the Nebraska women’s basketball team opened the 2024-2025 season with a noon showdown against the Omaha Mavericks. The Huskers won 88-84.
Nebraska shot 34-of-59 from the field, scoring 58 points in the paint to dominate the game offensively. The team also shot 15-of-20 from the free-throw line. The Mavericks shot just 19-of-57, with the Huskers producing 14 steals and six blocks. Nebraska also won on the boards, outrebounding Omaha 38-30.
Alexis Markowski led the team in the win, producing a double-double with a team-high 14 points and 11 rebounds while going 7-of-8 from the field. Natalie Potts produced similar stats, also scoring 14 points while shooting 6-of-8 from the field and hauling in six rebounds.
Logan Nissley delivered a perfect shooting percentage in the win, going 3-of-3 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line to finish with 12 points. Freshman Petra Bozan also scored 12 points in her collegiate debut, landing five of her seven shots, two of which were from beyond the arc.
Allison Weidner returned to the court after an injury last season, scoring 11 points after finishing 4-of-7 from the field. Freshman Britt Prince also cracked double digits in her collegiate debut. The Omaha native scored 10 points in the win, going 4-of-6 in shooting.
Nebraska will remain home to host their next two opponents: Southeastern Louisiana and Southern. The Huskers will face off against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. CT on B1G+.
