Rams’ Cooper Kupp to go through workout to determine Week 7 status

LOS ANGELES — Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp will go through a workout Monday that will help determine whether he can practice this week and ultimately play against the Las Vegas Raiders, coach Sean McVay said.

Kupp has not played since he sprained his ankle in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals.

“Today will be a big day for guys like Cooper Kupp,” McVay said. “We’ll see how he’s doing. He’s making good progress. I’ll have an injury update [Wednesday] in regards to how today goes for him.

“There is a possibility he could be ready this week. There’s also a possibility that he might not be ready.”

Kupp’s workout with the training staff will include “game-like movements” and running routes. McVay said Kupp “knows what it looks like to have his body in alignment to return to performance, not just return to play” and that the Rams “want to be smart with that.”

“But even talking with him earlier today, he’s feeling good, he’s feeling optimistic,” McVay said. “But he’s also very aware of what that looks like to be ready to roll and to maybe not quite be there yet. So today will be a big day.”

In two games this season, Kupp has 18 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown.

McVay said the only other injured player who may be able to return to practice is tackle Joe Noteboom, who has “a big workout scheduled” on Monday that could lead to the Rams starting his 21-day practice window. Noteboom sprained his ankle in the Rams’ season opener.

McVay also confirmed that wide receiver Puka Nacua (PCL sprain) and offensive lineman Steve Avila (MCL sprain) aren’t expected to return from injured reserve this week.
