Purdue football’s 2025 recruiting class loses another commitment, continuing slide

by admin

INDIANAPOLIS – Purdue football’s future recruiting classes continue to feel the strain of the Boilermakers’ poor on-field performance.

Antioch, Tennessee, offensive lineman Ta’Khyian Whitset announced Wednesday night he has reopened his recruitment. The three-star prospect, ranked No. 647 in the 2025 class per the 247 Sports composite, had been committed to Purdue since April 30.

Whitset joins Hammond Morton receiver Lebron Hill and Columbus (Ohio) Walnut Grove cornerback Dawayne Galloway Jr. as 2025 commits to back off their pledge in the last 10 days. Downey (Calif.) quarterback Oscar Rios also decommitted last week.

The run of decommitments comes as the Boilermakers‘ losing streak reached four games with a 52-6 loss at Wisconsin last Saturday. A 1-4 start to the season also featured a 66-7 home loss to Notre Dame. Purdue coach Ryan Walters fired offensive coordinator Graham Harrell was fired after the third straight loss, 28-10 to Nebraska.

Purdue’s 2025 class has dwindled to 10 members. It is the lowest-ranked team in the Big Ten per 247’s rankings, and only two other power conference programs — Vanderbilt and Colorado — rank lower. Only two players in the class are ranked in the national top 500.

The class does include two other offensive linemen: Hamilton Southeastern’s Cameron Gorin, son of former Purdue player Brandon Gorin, and Dayton (Ohio) Centerville’s Kuol Kuol.
