The Phoenix Mercury will have the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, the league announced during its lottery on Sunday.
The 2025 draft occurs April 14 following the NCAA women’s national championship.
The Dallas Wings got the No. 1 pick to likely select UConn senior star Paige Bueckers. Dallas had the second-worst record 9-31 in 2024, and among the four teams with the best odds alongside the Los Angeles Sparks, Chicago Sky, and Washington Mystics, to get the top pick. Each of those teams missed the playoffs.
Phoenix made the postseason as the seventh seed, finished the regular season with a 19-21 record, and was eliminated in a first-round sweep by the championship runner-up Minnesota. Phoenix had a team filled with veterans this season, led by All-WNBA Second Team selection Kahleah Copper, Diana Taurasi, and Brittney Griner.
Taurasi, the league’s all-time leading scorer, has yet to make her decision to retire or play her 21st season. If she plays again, that would extend her other league record for the longest career ever.
