OHSAA football scores | Archbishop Hoban vs Glenville high school football live updates

The Archbishop Hoban High School football team hopes to pass a state championship litmus test Friday night against visiting Glenville.

Hoban scheduled showdowns with three reigning state champs in the 2024 regular season: Archbishop Spalding from Severn, Maryland, and Ohio High School Athletic Association juggernauts Glenville and St. Edward.

The Division II state runner-up the past three seasons, Hoban lost 28-14 to visiting Spalding in Week 1. Glenville has won the past two Division IV state titles and upset three-time defending Division I state champ St. Edward 28-27 on Sept. 26. Hoban will visit St. Ed’s for the two teams’ Oct. 26 regular-season finale.

Coming off a 19-14 loss to rival Walsh Jesuit, Hoban (5-2) is scheduled to face Glenville (5-2) at 7 p.m. at Dowed Field in Akron. Check back here for updates throughout the game.

What happened when Akron Hoban and Glenville football played in the 2023 season?

Big-time players make big-time plays in big-time games, and Hoban junior Elbert Hill is the epitome of a big-time player.

The No. 1 cornerback recruit in the country, according to On3.com, ESPN and Rivals.com, Hill returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown and recorded an interception with 5:36 left in the fourth quarter to lift Hoban to a 28-16 win over Glenville last season.

Hoban sophomore running back Brayton Feister also had a memorable performance against Glenville. As a freshman last season, Feister produced a 20-yard touchdown reception and a 2-yard rushing TD.

Who are the top playmakers for Hoban Knights football in 2024?

Heading into Friday’s game, Feister had 93 carries for 703 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.

At quarterback for Hoban, senior Ethan Roksandich had 52 carries for 386 yards and five TDs and sophomore Trent Hayden had gone 22-of-33 passing for 412 yards and five TDs.

As a wide receiver, Hill led Hoban in catches (11), receiving yards (289 yards) and touchdown receptions (three).

On defense, Hoban is led by four-star cornerback Hill, senior Ohio State linebacker commit Eli Lee, senior Eastern Michigan cornerback commit Tylan Boykin, senior tackle Nick Crawford, senior linebacker Tanner Mintz and junior end Ace Brown.

Glenville has star power, too. Junior linebacker Cincere Johnson is a four-star recruit. Junior nickelback C.J. Newell and junior safety Aaron Scales are among Glenville’s other standouts.
