It was a great day for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team, as it soundly defeated the Navy Midshipmen, 51-14.
There was plenty of good to come out of this game for the Irish, as they improved to 7-1 on the season. One of those was the plus-6 margin on takeaways, as Notre Dame didn’t give the ball away once.
Five of those turnovers caused were by recovered fumbles, which put the Irish within one recovery from a school record of six which happened in 1984 at USC according to Notre Dame’s official press release social media account. Either way, the effort was impressive, as this year’s performance of five recovered fumbles tied with four other games that has occurred for Notre Dame.
This was the first time it’s happened since 1977 against Pittsburgh, so it’s been quite a while since the Irish have been so dominant on one day. What also is unique about this statistic, was that Navy came into the game having lost a fumble just twice.
It’s a pretty cool stat considering the situation for Notre Dame.
