No. 25 Jackson State football makes FCS coaches poll for first time this season

by admin

Jackson State football is No. 25 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, the first time the Tigers have been ranked the season.

JSU (4-2, 2-0 SWAC) is coming off its open week and will host No. 18 Florida A&M (3-2, 1-0) on Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT, ESPNU) at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. It is the Tigers’ first home game since Sept. 14, when they beat Southern 33-15, and will be their first ranked opponent of the season.

Last week, JSU announced its game against Florida A&M would be televised on ESPNU, its first nationally televised game this season.

“Well, for us, what’s important for us is just stay on the gas,” JSU coach T.C. Taylor said on Monday. “You know, we won our last couple of ballgames and put up a lot of points. So it’s just, can we come back and not take time to get started again. We got to hit the ground rolling.”

This is the first time Jackson State has cracked the top 25 since 2022, when it ended the season at No. 11, with a 12-1 overall record, after a 41-34 overtime loss to North Carolina Central in the Cricket Celebration Bowl.

JSU is coming off SWAC wins against Texas Southern and Alabama A&M, outscoring them 88-52 combined.
