The Brooklyn Nets are less than one week away from training camp in preparation for the 2024-25 season that marks the first year of the franchise’s current rebuild. While this season is important for Brooklyn in the sense of player development and luck in the 2025 NBA Draft, there are other events happening right now for the owner of the franchise.

On Tuesday, the WNBA’s New York Liberty, also owned by governor Joe Tsai, defeated the Atlanta Dream 91-82 to advance to the semifinals of the WNBA playoffs to face the Las Vegas Aces, the reigning defending league champions. Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu had a historic performance not just for herself, but for the franchise and Tsai gave his reaction to her performance that coupled with the win.

“In global news today…,” Tsai wrote on his X account following a post that broke down the game and everything that happened. As mentioned above, Ionescu had a game for the ages as she dropped 36 points (12-of-23 shooting from the field, 5-of-11 from three-point range) to tie a franchise playoff record while also adding nine assists and three steals in the closeout win over Atlanta.

Over the years, Tsai has been a vocal supporter of the Nets and the Liberty and while the Nets are expected to be one of the worst teams in the NBA this season, the Liberty are expected to be one of the main contenders for the WNBA title, especially after New York entered the playoffs as the top overall seed. The Liberty play their first game of the semifinals against the Aces on Sunday as they look to eliminate the team that beat them in last season’s WNBA Finals.
