NASCAR Fans Question Charlotte ROVAL’s Future As Rick Hendrick & Marcus Smith Unveil Ambitious Project

For some NASCAR fans, there is more to life than watching the races on weekends. There are many fans who dream about getting into a car and racing across the tracks with their friends. As we head into the weekend of the 2024 Bank of America ROVAL 400, Rick Hendrick has some big news for fans.

Gone are the days when living like a NASCAR driver could only be a part of a fan’s dreams. Recently, Rick Hendrick, the team boss for Hendrick Motorsports, has been working on a new 100-acre project in Charlotte, and once it’s done, it might just be a new haven for fans to relax.

Rick Hendrick presents the Ten Tenths Motor Club

On October 11, Rick Hendrick came forward with a huge announcement for NASCAR fans as he plans on collaborating with Speedway Motorsports. The project will be made at the Concord track under the name Ten-Tenths Motor Club. The upcoming project will be located outside the first two turns of the Concord circuit, and it will feature a road course, an events facility, a garage, and for dirt fans, multiple off-road driving trails.

With plans to launch the project by next April, the motor club will feature a 0.567-mile inner loop, a 1.1-mile short course, and a 1.7-mile full circuit with 112 feet of elevation change. The three configurations will be designed by Alexander Wurz, who is not only an F1 veteran but also the two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner. For entertainment purposes off the tracks, the Ten-Tenths Clubhouse will come with a 20,000-square-foot special event facility with a capacity for 1,500 people.

Speedway Motorsports CEO Marcus Smith came forward to share the idea behind the Motor Club, saying, “Our vision for Ten Tenths is to create an experiential destination that can be enjoyed by everyone from professional race car drivers to high-performance driving enthusiasts and car collectors.” Explaining the size of the project, Smith added, “It’s the most expansive property development at Charlotte Motor Speedway since we built zMAX Dragway in 2008, and further enhances our desire to innovate for the future.”

Rick Hendrick also shared some information about the upcoming project, saying, “In addition to a premier track design and driving experience, Ten Tenths will have unparalleled resources and infrastructure to support every customer and organization we touch.” With 3 short circuits and an expansive luxury clubhouse, there isn’t much more that fans could ask for, but how could anyone forget the premium member’s garage?

With such a huge project launching next year, fans are left divided, as some are excited to see the Motorclub, while others aren’t big fans of the idea.

What do fans think of Rick Hendrick’s upcoming project?

After listening to the plans of what will go down on the Concord circuit, one fan shared their reservations about the place. Their comment read, “It’s a country club for rich guys, but instead of a golf course, it’s a road course. This isn’t a new concept.” According to the fan, two things make them dislike the project: the possible expensive price for the experience and the fact that it’s not a new concept.

Knowing that Rick Hendrick is working on the project, a fan who visited his event back in 1993 shared their experience, saying. “I was at @CLTMotorSpdwy in 1993 when @TeamHendrick had rented the track for its employees and their families to race Saturns for fun.” From the experience that the fan had at Rick Hendrick’s event, it seems like they would be interested in visiting the Motorclub to relive their nostalgic memory, Hendrick style.

Then there’s the fan who’s all about getting behind the wheel themselves: “Can’t wait to turn laps around that place in my Jetta, Bob.” It seems like some fans are ready to take their everyday rides onto the track, dreaming of their own racing adventures.

But not everyone is just looking for a fun time; some are hoping for serious competition. One fan pointedly said, “Well, shit, just make it a good track for Cup cars and move the roval race there.” It looks like they want to ensure this new facility isn’t just for casual driving but can host high-stakes races too!

Finally, there’s the optimistic fan who sees big things in store: “Given who’s involved, you can pretty much guarantee they’ll get a Cup date eventually.” They’re clearly excited about the potential for major events at the new venue, believing that with Hendrick’s backing, it won’t be long before the pros hit the track.
