Michigan football clinched a bowl berth Saturday and regained some momentum heading into the rivalry showdown with Ohio State.
The Wolverines (6-5) have failed to meet expectations for most of the 2024 season but looked dominant on both sides of the ball in the 50-6 rout of Northwestern on Saturday. Michigan’s defense held the Wildcats out of the end zone, while the offense provided its first true explosive performance this season, led by 201 rushing yards in a collectively strong performance by the offensive line.
Ohio State (10-1) comes into the matchup ranked No. 2 in the country (behind the only team to beat them this year, undefeated Oregon), and owns an inside track to a berth in the Big Ten championship game after beating previously undefeated Indiana comfortably last week.

Michigan has won three straight rivalry matchups with the Buckeyes en route to three straight conference championships and College Football Playoff appearances. Last season, Michigan held onto a halftime lead by burning most of the fourth quarter clock with a seven-minute field goal drive to go up 30-24, and then sealed the win with a Rod Moore interception on the final drive. Prior to Michigan’s three-game winning streak, Ohio State won eight straight matchups from 2012-19, and the 2020 game was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Michigan vs. Ohio State prediction
Though the Wolverines found momentum on offense against Northwestern, it will be an entirely different task to move the ball against Ohio State’s defense, which is No. 1 in the country in scoring (10.7 points allowed per game) and top-three against the run (90 rushing yards allowed per game). The Buckeyes have enough talent offensively to square up against Michigan’s defense and should find enough success through the talent of their skill-position players. The pick: Ohio State 28, U-M 13.
