The Mets are signing infielder Donovan Walton to a minor league deal.
Just like last offseason, New York has put an emphasis on adding veteran depth pieces to the mix for Triple-A Syracuse early on in the winter under David Stearns, and Walton is the latest example.
The 30-year-old was originally selected by the Mets in the 36th round of the 2012 Draft, but he opted not to sign and instead played three seasons at Oklahoma State, before joining the Seattle Mariners organization as a fifth-round pick.
Walton has appeared in just 70 big-league games since then.
He spent the majority of last season in Triple-A with the San Francisco Giants where he enjoyed a ton of success, recording 28 extra base-hits and a .821 OPS across 99 games.
Most of his experience has been at the middle infield positions, but Walton has also seen time at third base and left field.
