Nascar star Tyler Reddick has done it again. The 28-year-old just won the Nascar Cup Series Regular Season Championship at the Cook Out Southern 500, beating Kyle Larson by one point. The victory did not come easy though.

Per AP, the racer was suffering from a stomach flu that he’d caught from his young son, which left him feeling terribly ill during the race – so much so that he thought he might puke inside his helmet or have diarrhoea. The diarrhoea medication he’d been taking stopped the latter from happening but it made him sicker behind the wheel. “I can hardly remember sections of the race, I was so out of it at times,” he said, before expressing relief that he didn’t “take someone out during caution or make some crazy moves on the racetrack to take anyone else out”.

Motivating him through the race at Darlington Raceway was his team 23XI Racing’s co-owner Michael Jordan, who recalled his own legendary performance against the Utah Jazz in Game 5 at the 1997 NBA Finals, famously dubbed the Flu Game. “I mean, I know what it feels like to be sick and trying to perform, and just to do what he did, I mean, I wasn’t going around 200 miles an hour in a car, but I’m proud of his effort, and we needed it,” Jordan said, per Nascar.

Reddick’s big win comes hot on the heels of another major milestone in his life. Earlier this year, he married his long-time girlfriend Alexa DeLeon, with whom he shares four-year-old Beau. Fun fact: based on an Instagram photo of their engagement captioned, “After years of Tyler hinting and sending me rings, I finally proposed,” it seems like she was the one who popped the question. The ceremony was held at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and was attended by the who’s who of the racing world, including 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin, driver Bubba Wallace, and Sam Hunt of Sam Hunt Racing.

So just who is Tyler Reddick’s new wife?

The Nascar WAG’s father, the late Jose DeLeon, was a famous Major League Baseball pitcher. He died in February this year after battling cancer. Reddick revealed in an interview with The Athletic that during DeLeon’s stint at the Chicago White Sox, he spent some time with Jordan during spring training. He also shared that there might be a picture of the Basketball Hall of Famer holding his now-wife as a baby. In April, Alexa posted a life update on her Instagram, in which she shared pictures of herself as a baby with her father.
