Kyle Busch has never experienced a season of NASCAR Cup Series competition as challenging as 2024.
Even during tough years when he’s missed the playoffs, suffered from a championship hangover, or lacked his usual speed, Busch has always managed to secure at least one race win.
The closest he came to going winless was in 2020 when he didn’t win until a bizarre playoff race at Texas that concluded on a Wednesday. That win, in the 34th race of the season, saved his streak of at least one victory each year.
Now, four years later, Busch holds the sole record for the most consecutive seasons with at least one win, reaching 19. However, 2024 has presented a series of challenges that have even left the two-time champion struggling to avoid mistakes.
At Kansas on September 29, Busch was leading with 33 laps to go when an incident with Chase Briscoe put him into the wall and spun his No. 8 Chevy. A 19th-place finish was little comfort in a season that’s seen him face numerous setbacks.
With six races remaining, here are the three tracks where the 39-year-old driver has his best shot at ending his winless streak, which dates back to June 2023.
Talladega (October 6)
The next race on the schedule might be Busch’s best chance for a victory. He won at Talladega in April 2023, and while superspeedway racing is notoriously unpredictable, Busch has shown impressive speed on drafting tracks in 2024. If he can avoid getting caught in “The Big One,” expect to see him near the front when it matters most.
Las Vegas (October 27)
Busch was running in the top five at Las Vegas in March before pit road issues dropped him to a 26th-place finish. He’s a former winner at this track, and the No. 8 team has been fast on intermediate tracks recently. Add in the fact that Las Vegas is Busch’s home track, and it would be the perfect place for him to break the longest winless streak of his career.
Phoenix (November 10)
Phoenix wasn’t kind to Busch in March, where he spun multiple times and finished 22nd. But if he heads into the final race of the season without a win, Busch will be on a 56-race drought. Motivation is a powerful factor, and Busch is known to rise to the occasion. While his team may not be the favorite, Busch’s talent and determination make him a serious threat to pull off a surprise victory at the one-mile track.
