When Notre Dame football lost at home to Northern Illinois, its path to the College Football Playoff got much thinner.

After this weekend’s lackluster performance against Miami (OH) coupled with the Huskies overtime loss to Buffalo, the chances got much lower. We all assumed that the Irish would have a small margin for error to make the CFP, and on Saturday evening, Joel Klatt confirmed what we all saw coming.

The Fox analyst believes that Notre Dame will have to win out in order to make the field of twelve teams vying for a national championship. He was asked on the Irish’s outlook for the rest of the year, and quoted the answer with how he sees their chances in the CFP.

It the unfortunate reality of the situation for Notre Dame, as after its impressive road win at Texas A&M, it looked like they were a shoo-in participant in the tournament.

While the Irish can still make it, this weekend’s results made it much more difficult.
