Jameis Winston to remain Browns’ starting QB after upset of Ravens

BEREA, Ohio — Jameis Winston, who threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns in the Cleveland Browns‘ 29-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens, will continue to start at quarterback, coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday.

“Jameis is the starter,” Stefanski said.

Winston set a franchise record for most passing yards in a Browns debut and tossed the go-ahead score to wide receiver Cedric Tillman with 59 seconds remaining as Cleveland ended a five-game losing streak. It was Winston’s first start since Sept. 25, 2022, when he was a member of the New Orleans Saints.

“I thought he did a nice job with progressions,” Stefanski said. “I thought he saw it clearly.”

Winston had been Deshaun Watson‘s backup for the first six games of the season. He was made the emergency quarterback in the Browns’ Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals but stepped in when Watson suffered a season-ending right Achilles tendon tear and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson injured the middle finger on his throwing hand.

The Browns (2-6) host the Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Stefanski said linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has been released from a local hospital after being immobilized and carted off the field with a neck injury that occurred during a collision with running back Derrick Henry.

The team previously said that Owusu-Koramoah had movement in all his extremities and would remain in the hospital overnight as a precaution.

Stefanski did not rule out Owusu-Koramoah for Sunday’s game against the Chargers, saying the team would monitor his status in the coming days.
