Iowa women’s basketball cracks AP Top 25 Poll after undefeated start

by admin

After what some felt was a little bit of disrespect and being viewed as underrated, the Iowa Hawkeyes are making their presence in the women’s college basketball world felt.

After their most recent win over Washington State, the Hawkeyes find themselves finally entering the AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll this week.

The Hawkeyes’ 6-0 start has them ranked at a rather iconic number within the Iowa program. Jan Jensen, in her first year as the Iowa head coach, has the Hawkeyes entering this week’s poll at No. 22.

The top of the poll saw some shakeups this week as South Carolina dropped a game to UCLA. The Gamecocks slid down to No. 4 in the polls while the win skyrocketed the Bruins to No. 1 for the first time in program history.

UConn held steady at No. 2 while Notre Dame jumped in to the No. 3 spot and Texas slid one spot to round out the top five at No. 5.

The rest of the Big Ten has a healthy showing in the polls. The USC Trojans sit at No. 6 after a loss to the Fighting Irish while Maryland comes in at No. 10 and the Ohio State Buckeyes are at No. 11.

The Illinois Fighting Illini find themselves at No. 19, the Oregon Ducks are sitting at No. 22, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers round out the poll at No. 25.

Up next for the Hawkeyes is a trip to Cancun, Mexico, as they will take part in the Cancun Challenge.

Iowa takes on Rhode Island on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m. CT and follows that up with a game against BYU on Friday, Nov. 29 against the BYU Cougars at 8 p.m. CT.
