After opening round wins, the Minnesota Lynx and the Connecticut Sun begin their series on Sunday with the winner headed to the WNBA Finals.

The Connecticut Sun defeated the Indiana Fever, 87-81, in Game 2 of the opening round of the WNBA Playoffs and the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Phoenix Mercury, 101-88, on Wednesday to set up this best-of-five matchup.

All three of the regular season games were close. Connecticut won the first in overtime 83-82 on May 23. The Sun also won the second 78-73 on July 4. Minnesota got its 78-76 victory on Sept. 17.

Expect plenty of great defense during the series. These were the best two teams in the league in defensive rating during the regular season. The Sun were at 94.1 and the Lynx at 94.8. They were also the best at defending the 3-point line. Minnesota held its opponents to 30.1 percent shooting and Connecticut limited theirs to 31.3 percent.

Alyssa Thomas led the way for Connecticut in Game 2 with a double-double, notching 19 points, 13 assists, five rebounds and one steal in the win. The outing marked her second straight game this postseason with 13 assists and her 22nd career postseason double-double, which is good for third all-time in WNBA playoff history, tying Sylvia Fowles.

For the Lynx it is all about Napheesa Collier. She scored 42 to tie a WNBA playoff record for points in a game.Collier tied Breanna Stewart and Angel McCoughtry for the 42-point record when she made 1 of 2 free throws with 3:18 left in the fourth quarter.

Collier, who scored a career-high 38 points in Game 1, became the first player in WNBA history with 38-plus points in back-to-back playoff games. She also set a WNBA record for the most points (80) over a two-game stretch in the playoffs.
