Final score

TCU 13, Utah 7

The Utes fell for a third straight time as they couldn’t generate nearly enough offensive output to overcome visiting TCU.

Isaac Wilson’s 71-yard touchdown pass to Money Parks made it a one-score game but TCU, after building a 13-0 lead, kept the Utes from seriously threatening to take the lead.

The Horned Frogs finished with 395 yards of total offense, while Utah had 267 — the Utes only had 85 in the first half, when they went into the break down 10-0.

Utah drops to 4-3 on the year and 1-3 in Big 12 play.

Fourth quarter

TCU 13, Utah 7

2:17 — TCU converted a fourth and 1 at the Utah 48 with a 2-yard run to maintain possession.

Utah is now out of timeouts as we hit the two-minute timeout.

2:35 — Time has almost run out for the Utes.

For the second time in the fourth quarter, Utah couldn’t convert a fourth-down play — Isaac Wilson’s pass deep downfield fell incomplete — and TCU will take over at its 43.

Third quarter

TCU 13, Utah 7

6:12 — That’s the spark Utah needed.

The Utes scored for the first time, as Isaac Wilson hit Money Parks down the middle for a 71-yard touchdown pass. TCU 13, Utah 7.

There’s life again at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

9:32 — The Horned Frogs added to their lead, getting a 28-yard field goal from Kyle Lemmermann on their first possession of the second half. TCU 13, Utah 0.

Utah’s defense did not break, coming up with the stop inside the red zone to force the field goal after TCU had favorable field position following a Utah three and out and moved the ball deep into Utes territory.

Halftime

TCU 10, Utah 0

It was an ugly first half of football for Utah — the Utes trail by 10 at the break after failing to get anything going offensively.

TCU put up 242 yards of total offense, compared to 86 for the Utes — and Utah is fortunate not to be down more, after coming up with two red-zone stops on the Horned Frogs’ first two possessions.

The Utes had a chance to drive late in the half and add points — Isaac Wilson found Brant Kuithe for a 26-yard gain on third and 10 that moved the ball to the TCU 48 — with just under 40 seconds until halftime. The Horned Frogs were able to get pressure on Wilson, though, including a 10-yard sack, and stopped that threat.

TCU’s Josh Hoover completed 16 of 26 passes for 196 yards in the first half, while Wilson was 7 of 14 for 51 yards.

Utah’s only offensive playmaker to make a meaningful impact was running back Micah Bernard, who had 51 yards on eight carries. He briefly left with 2:28 until halftime and was limping as he headed to the medical tent, but Bernard returned to the field on Utah’s next possession.

The short score was set up by a 20-yard pass to Drake Dabney that got the ball within the 1. The drive covered 79 yards in eight plays.

The Horned Frogs moved the ball 66 yards in nine plays for the game’s first scoring drive.
