Here’s the UL women’s basketball schedule for the 2024 season

by admin

The countdown for Louisiana women’s basketball’s highly anticipated 2024-25 season is almost over as the Ragin’ Cajuns’ first game of the season is just days away.

Last season me a sour end when UL lost in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference tournament to James Madison. That capped a 17-14 season along with a 10-8 SBC record. The 64-54 loss to JMU marked the Cajuns’ fourth semifinal appearance in the SBC tournament in the past five years and this year the Cajuns are aiming to make a return with new faces leading the way.

“We might be the oldest team in America because we’ve got nine seniors and a lot of grad transfers, so it’s a different team compared to 13 years ago when we started five freshmen,” UL women’s basketball coach Gary Brodhead said. “I like what I see. They’re very talented. It’s just a matter of if we can kind of put this thing together — the chemistry of them — and trying to build that.”

Among the Cajuns’ newcomers is graduate transfer Erica Lafayette, a guard from Rutgers who will be a perimeter threat this season. She produced two back-to-back seasons scoring over 100 points and was the second-best 3-point shooter for the Scarlet Knights last season.

Lafayette will be a great complement to pick up the offensive slack after UL lost its top three scorers from last season due to graduation and transfers. The Cajuns’ fourth-best scorer, junior guard Jaylyn James, will be back after averaging 8.3 points per game last year. James was the lone Cajun player to be named to the 2024-25 preseason All-Sun Belt conference second team.

With James, Lafayette and a host of other weapons, the Cajuns are optimistic as they kick off the season at 5 p.m. Wednesday with an exhibition game against Centenary at the Cajundome. Here is the UL women’s basketball schedule for the 2024-25 season.
