LAS VEGAS — The Vegas Golden Knights have signed forward Brett Howden to a five-year contract extension, through the 2029-30 NHL season, the team announced Friday.

Howden’s contract is worth an average annual value of $2,500,000.

Now in his fourth season with the Golden Knights, Howden is tied for second on the team with eight goals this season, just one shy of his career-high.

His nine points rank 10th on the team.

“I think I’ve just built confidence over the years, obviously getting the chance to play with (Tomas) Hertl as well, a world-class centerman, and (Pavel Dorofeyev) playing the way he’s playing,” Howden said after his game-winning goal beat Utah in overtime on Nov. 2. “I’m just trying to balance some energy and play a good two-way game and try to bring offense when I can.”

Howden’s eight goals have all come during even strength, the most on the team, and tied for ninth among all skaters in the NHL.

The 26-year-old was a part of the Stanley Cup team in 2023 when he produced 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) and a plus-4 rating in 22 games during the postseason.

Howden was a first-round pick (27th overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to being acquired by the Golden Knights during the offseason in 2021, Howden played three seasons with the New York Rangers (2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21). As a 20-year-old rookie in New York, he set career-highs in assists (17) and points (23) through 66 games.
