Former Predators Defenseman Tyson Barrie Lands Contract

by admin

Tyson Barrie is one of the few players who were signed to professional tryouts this preseason to land a contract for the season. He joined the Calgary Flames ahead of training camp and has earned his spot on the team, receiving a one-year, $1.25 million AAV deal.

Barrie was with the Nashville Predators last season and didn’t fit very well into the system and on the back-end. He fought his way into some games late in the season when it mattered, but should be an everyday player in the NHL. He’s not that far removed from his 13-goal, 55-point season in 2022-23 split between the Edmonton Oilers and the Predators.

Barrie brings a solid veteran presence to the Flames and is well known for being a great teammate and locker room guy that everybody likes. The Flames aren’t expected to have a very good team and he can be someone that keeps the room light.

Other than Mackenzie Weegar and Rasmus Andersson, it is a relatively young and inexperienced defense for the Flames, so Barrie not only adds some offense and leadership, but experience as well. He can play in the NHL every day and proved over the last couple of weeks that he is capable of more than some of the other options the team had.

Barrie is coming off one goal and 15 points in 41 games with the Predators, but expect him to play a full season, especially if the Flames are sellers and his role increases over the course of the season.
