NEWARK, N.J. — On Tuesday morning, the New Jersey Devils announced they released goaltender Michael Hutchinson from his professional tryout (PTO).
On Sept. 5, Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced they signed the netminder to a PTO. He joined forward Kevin Labanc and defensemen Andy Welinski and Jakub Zboril, who were invited to camp.
The 34-year-old appeared in one game for the Detroit Red Wings last season against the Devils. New Jersey won the game 3-2, with Hutchinson making 33 saves on 36 shots.
He spent most of 2023-24 with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL). There, he earned a record of 14-14-3 with a 0.892 save percentage.
He has appeared in 154 NHL games with the Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, and Winnipeg Jets throughout his career. Hutchinson has additionally appeared in 241 AHL games.
