Clemson basketball’s 2024 ACC preseason poll finish is highest in 14 years

by admin

CLEMSON — Clemson basketball was picked to finish fourth in the 18-team ACC in the preseason media poll, according to a release from the conference Tuesday.

The Tigers received 765 points and secured no first-place votes. They finished behind Duke (956 points), North Carolina (924) and Wake Forest (800). Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest each received at least one first-place vote too.

This is the highest preseason prediction for the Tigers since 2010 when they were picked to finish third. The last time Clemson was picked fourth in the preseason poll was 2008 when it finished third.

Guard Chase Hunter and forward Ian Schieffelin were selected to the preseason second-team all-ACC too. Hunter returned for his sixth season, and Schieffelin won the conference’s most improved player award last year.

The media poll was conducted by a vote from a media panel consisting of 54 voters. The poll comes after the ACC added Stanford, SMU and California to the conference this season.

Clemson, which was unranked in the preseason AP poll, looks to return to the Elite Eight after getting there for the first time in 44 years last season. Tigers coach Brad Brownell, who earned a contract extension in July, added four transfers and three freshmen to compliment Hunter, Schieffelin and forward Chauncey Wiggins in 2024-25.
