Items for western North Carolina are being collected in the silver lot outside Charlotte Motor Speedway on two consecutive Wednesdays.
CONCORD, N.C. — Volunteers from NASCAR and Charlotte-area race teams is joining Charlotte Motor Speedway volunteers to collect donations to aid ongoing Helene relief efforts.
Donations will be collected from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 23 and Wed., Oct. 30. Donations are being collected in the Silver parking lot, which is located across the street from the speedway at the corner of Burton Smith Blvd. and Concord Parkway (also known as U.S. Route 29).
Collected items will be shared with distribution centers across western North Carolina.
Essential items needed for the donation drive:
- Thermal clothes
- Insulated gloves and boots
- Generators
- Propane
- Laundry detergent/dish soap
- Multivitamins/over-the-counter medications
- Extension cords and box fans
- Portable heaters
- Storage totes
- Carbon monoxide detectors
Thanks to generous donations, distribution centers are currently not in need of water, diapers and used clothing.
Western North Carolina nonprofits impacted by Hurricane Helene received 10,000 donated items from WCNC Charlotte’s Share the Warmth campaign on Tuesday. The Share the Warm campaign started when WCNC Charlotte crews were up in the mountains for weeks talking to people impacted by Hurricane Helene about their needs. They’re changing daily, but the one thing that wasn’t changing was the urgent need for warm clothes.
The donations went directly to families who desperately need this cold-weather gear.
There are still so many ways you can help those in need, either by donating to the Red Cross, volunteer your time with the Red Cross or Samaritan’s Purse.
