For the first time all season, the official College Football Playoff rankings will be released this week, giving us our first taste of how the playoff committee sees the top teams in the nation.
Will it go along with what we’ve seen over the weeks from the US LBM Coaches Poll and Associated Press Top 25, or will there be changes? Do the Oregon Ducks stand at No. 1, as they have in the other polls for the last three weeks?
Where is the room more movement and chaos as we enter the final month of the regular season?
All of those questions will be answered on Tuesday night when the rankings are revealed. Here’s how to tune into the action:

TEAM football CFP rankings projection
The Ducks have been ranked No. 1 in both the AP Top 25 and the US LBM Coaches Poll for three weeks, and they’ve looked like the best team in the country during that time. At this point, it would be a big surprise if they were not ranked No. 1 by the College Football Playoff committee, given they are one of four unbeaten teams remaining in the Power Four conferences and have one of the strongest strength of schedule records in the nation.
How many teams in College Football Playoff 2024?
For the first time, there will be 12 teams participating in the College Football Playoffs. There are five automatic bids for each of the Power Four conference champions and one to the highest-ranked Group of Five champion. The remaining seven slots are given to the seven at-large teams.
How does the College Football Playoff format work?
The top four seeds will be on a bye as the CFP kicks off. The next four highest-seeded teams will host on-campus playoff games as follows:
-
No. 5 vs No. 12, winner will play No. 4
-
No. 6 vs No. 11, winner will play No. 3
-
No. 7 vs No. 10, winner will play No. 2
-
No. 8 vs No. 9, winner will play No. 1
