Hours before the puck drop on the 2024-25 season, the Montreal Canadiens acquired a familiar face by signing former defenseman Gustav Lindström to a one-year, two-way deal.

The 25-year Swedish defenseman played 14 games with the Canadiens last season, scoring three goals and four points before the Anaheim Ducks claimed him on waivers in January.
While in California, he scored no goals but had six assists in 32 games while finishing with a plus-12 rating on one of the worst statistical teams in the Western Conference.
Initially a second-round pick (38th overall) from the 2017 Draft, Lindström began his NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings. He played in 138 games over four years, scoring two goals and 25 points.
Immediately following the signing, Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes placed Lindström on waivers and sent him down to Laval. He played four games last season with the Rocket, registering no points but being minus-6.
In 62 AHL games, he has never scored a goal but has eight assists, a minus-18 rating, and 36 penalty minutes.
