Nov. 26—BLUEFIELD, Va. — Bluefield State University women’s basketball secured a 29-point victory against Bluefield University, 79-50, on Saturday.
The Big Blue (3-3) opened play with five consecutive points, with a layup from Tianna Rhodes and a three from Jayla Sample.
The Rams battled back to pull within one of the Big Blue 13-12, but the Big Blue scored the next nine points to close out the first quarter to take the 22-12 lead.
The Big Blue carried that momentum into the second quarter, outscoring the Rams 15-7 to take the 37-19 advantage into the half.
A jumper from Azariah Binford pushed the Big Blue lead to 20 to open the third quarter. After the Rams scored back-to-back buckets, the Big Blue scored 11 unanswered points to extend their lead to 27 midway through the quarter.
The Rams scored the last five points to cut the Big Blue lead to 20 going into the final quarter. The Big Blue had their largest lead of the night in the final two minutes after a layup from Andrea Robertson extended their lead to 31.
Sample led the Big Blue with 17 points followed by Jenkins with 16, Rhodes with 14 and Binford with 11. Robertson led all players with 10 rebounds.
Destiny Long led the charge for Bluefield University, scoring 19 points, also contributing 5 rebounds and 3 steal.
Lina Pagan put up a solid effort with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Kiarra Guzman also added 7 points while grabbing 4 rebounds.
