Arizona State College Football Playoff ranking lambasted by Big 12 fans: ‘Trash system’

After its dominant 49-7 win over Arizona in the Territorial Cup on Saturday, some Arizona State football fans expected (or at least hoped) the Sun Devils to get a little jump in the College Football Playoff rankings to get closer to Boise State in the race for a bye in the first round.

The top four-ranked conference champions don’t play until the quarterfinals, and Boise State, of the Mountain West, is ahead of ASU football and Iowa State football, who play in the Big 12 championship game on Saturday, for that fourth bye in the rankings.

Boise State faces UNLV in the Mountain West championship game on Friday.

Arizona State fans did not get their wish in the latest College Football Playoff rankings release, with Kenny Dillingham’s team rising only one spot to No. 15. Boise State also rose one spot to No. 10 in the ranking, appearing to be in great shape for the fourth bye if it wins the Mountain West title.

Kenny Dillingham’s ASU football team did not get the bump in the College Football Playoff rankings that some fans were hoping for.
