BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s basketball’s trip to paradise was almost turned to a nightmare in its opening game at the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship Monday.
Kim Mulkey and the No. 7 Tigers had to rally from an early 15-point deficit and a 7-point deficit with just 2:38 remaining to storm back and defeat Washington, 68-67, in a last-second game-winning layup from Kailyn Gilbert.
LSU (7-0) couldn’t get much going for much of the afternoon as the Huskies (6-2) led for more than 35 minutes in the game.
Now, Mulkey’s group will get a stiffer test as reward in No. 20 North Carolina State (4-2) Wednesday afternoon inside the Baha Mar Convention Center. The Wolfpack made the Final Four for the first time in program history last season and welcome back their entire backcourt from that squad.
