Why Ohio State football should want to lose the Big Ten Championship Game

Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day waits to take the field before the game against the Purdue Boilermakers at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 in Columbus, Ohio.

Unfortunately, the winner of the Big Ten Championship Game may have a more challenging route to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game than the loser of it.

Right now, as it stands, the Ohio State Buckeyes would face the Arizona State Sun Devils in the first round. With a win, they would then battle the Boise State Broncos.

Ohio State, should it beat Oregon in the Big Ten Championship Game, would face the winner of Tennessee vs. Georgia, and that, to most, would be a far more difficult matchup.

While it is all objective for now and fans haven’t really gotten a good look at Boise State against a top-ten opponent, most would clearly rather face Arizona State then Boise State over one game against Georgia.

That said, these results shouldn’t matter as both Ohio State and Oregon, if that’s the Big Ten Championship Game battle, would give it their all, but the loser undoubtedly shouldn’t be too upset moving forward.
