Nov. 25—MITCHELL — Mitchell High School junior Addie Siemsen has committed to play college basketball at Wayne State College, she said on Friday.
In a social media post, Siemsen said she committed to the Division II Wildcats. This comes following a visit to the campus and with the team last month.
A 5-foot-8 guard, Siemsen helped guide the Kernels to their first Eastern South Dakota Conference title since 2013, as MHS finished the year at 20-4 and in sixth place at the Class AA state tournament. Named to the ESD all-conference roster and garnering an all-state honorable mention as a sophomore, Siemsen averaged 12.6 points per game, three rebounds per game, 2.3 steals and 1.2 assists per game. She was also the team leader in three-pointers made, draining 57 triples.
Siemsen played on one of the Sanford Sports Academy 16-and-under teams over the summer. In addition to basketball, Siemsen also plays volleyball in the fall and runs track and field in the spring for the Kernels.
Mitchell girls basketball kicks off its season against defending Class A champions Vermillion at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Corn Palace.
