Shooting struggles continued for the Cal State Bakersfield women’s basketball team. And, once again their opponent, this time undefeated San Diego State, had no trouble securing an 88-46 victory Friday night at the Icardo Center.

The Roadrunners, now winless in five games, finished shooting 19 for 59, making six of 26 3-point shots and only going to the free-throw line for three attempts, making two and all in the fourth quarter.

It was a 20-6 lead for the visiting Aztecs (6-0) after one quarter and 52-23 at halftime. CSUB only scored 23 points total in the final two quarters.

The Aztecs as a team shot 50% (34 of 68), outrebounded the Runners 50-27. Offensive rebounds led to 21 second-chance points. Jazlen Green led SDSU with 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting and making all three of her 3-pointers. Four other Aztecs scored in double digits, including Cali Clark who had 12 points and 16 rebounds in only 19 minutes of playing time.

Meanwhile, first-year CSUB coach Ari Wideman wants to see shots finished, as in made. A 3 for 11 shooting performance, along with no 3-pointers on four attempts resulted in the six-point first quarter. The Runners bumped it up slightly in the second quarter with a 7 of 15 shooting effort and 3 of 9 from three-point range. But the Runners came out after halftime and went 4-of-18 and 0 for 5 on three-pointers.

The leading scorer for the Runners was Cheyenne Forney with eight points. Melissa Secchiaroli had seven points and four rebounds while Alli Dioli had six points and five rebounds.

The Roadrunners have one game this next week, a 6 p.m. Wednesday tipoff at Eastern Washington in Cheney. It’s the last tuneup before CSUB plays two early Big West Conference home games, against UC Irvine Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. and UC San Diego at 2 p.m. on Dec. 7.
