Montour Scores Late For The Kraken To Prevent Shut Out Against Kings.

by admin

Los Angeles, CA – The L.A Kings came out firing Saturday night as they hosted the Seattle Kraken for an afternoon matinee at Crypto.com Arena. The relentless Kings dominated most of the game and utterly peppered Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord with shot after shot. The Kraken failed to find a rhythm missing several opportunities and let their emotions get the better of them on more than one occasion.

Neither team scored in the first and the Kings broke the deadlock in the second period with Adrian Kempe’s 10th goal of the season assisted by Alex Turcotte and Anze Kopitar.

Frustration boiled over for the Kraken as Yanni Gourde was penalized for goaltender interference, setting the stage for Quinton Byfield to double the lead with a power play goal that made it 2-0. Byfield’s tally was his third of the season and the 200th of his NHL career.

Defenseman Brandon Montour’s slap shot goal with 90 seconds left in the third period prevented a 2-0 shut out. Montour’s goal was his his sixth goal of the season making him the leading defenseman in points with 13 points, 6 goals and 8 assists. Montour is now ranked second overall among all Kraken in points. The Kraken are tied for first in the NHL for goals by defensemen with Edmonton and Buffalo.

The Kraken pulled Daccord in a scramble to tie things up, but the late urgency was not enough as they fell 2-1 to the Kings.

Saturday night was the first of four meetings between the teams, with two in L.A (April 7, 2025). They’ll also meet in Seattle on Jan. 18 and April 15, 2025.

Montour spoke to the media after the game, discussing what worked and what didn’t for the team, and praised Joey Daccord for his performance throughout the night.
