The funeral procession for Bobby Allison will give fans a chance to pay their respects to the NASCAR Hall of Fame driver in Hueytown on Saturday.
Allison’s family has invited them to line Brooklane Drive and Davey Allison Boulevard for the occasion, the Hueytown Police Department announced on Thursday afternoon.
The procession left Peoples Chapel Funeral Home at about 2 p.m. CST Saturday, the Hueytown Police reported, and travel south on Brooklane Drive to Davey Allison Boulevard on its way to Highland Memorial Gardens.
It was a powerful scene in Hueytown Saturday, as fans lined the road to show their support for Allison one final time.
‘Kindness’ was a word used my nearly everyone to describe the memory the NASCAR driver will leave behind.
“Everybody just worldwide knows him, his name is synonymous with NASCAR, and he’s help make the sport the great sport that it is today,” said fan Brandy Durrett.
Durrett is a Hueytown native, and also spoke about what he meant to the community.
“Being here 50 years, my whole entire life, everybody in Alabama let alone the country knows about him,” Durrett added.
“He helped put NASCAR on the map, and obviously Hueytown comes along with that…our city is grateful for what he’s done for our city throughout the years,” said Chuck Hurlamin, another fan in attendance Saturday.
As victory lane becomes memory lane for Allison fans, they say he will be missed, but his legacy lives on.
