TWINSBURG — Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy coach Nick Cook said at the season’s outset that he wanted his team play beyond Week 11.

The Royals (10-2) have done just that, as they play a Division III, Region 9 semifinal vs. Gilmour Academy (11-1) Friday at Twinsburg’s Tiger Stadium. CVCA will look to advance to its first regional final in school history

  • CVCA — With a 19-16 win over Chardon, CVCA is on a 10-game win streak. … RB-LB Joey Kopec is having another All-Ohio season on both sides of the ball. He has run for 1,043 yards and 10 TDs, has 15 catches for 225 yards and three TDs and has returned an interception for a TD and a kickoff for a TD. He has six interceptions and is closing in on 100 tackles. … Royals QB Charley Levak has run for 624 yards and 11 TDs on 102 carries, and completed 59 of 110 passes for 942 yards and nine TDs. … Along with Kopec and Levak, CVCA’s rushing game is keyed by Ryan Wiehe with 512 yards and five TDs. … Brayden Harris is CVCA’s leading receiver with 27 catches for 427 yards and four TDs. … Nathan Cook has four interceptions. Tommy Kopec and Schober each have two interceptions.

  • Gilmour — The Lancers are led by Ohio State recruit Brody Lennon at tight end. He has 34 catches for 699 yards and 11 TDs, along with 14 carries for 95 yards and three TDs … QB Cooper Panteck has completed 166 of 248 passes for 2,811 yards, 36 touchdowns and two interception. Sean Dillard is his favorite target with 56 catches for 953 yards and 10 TDs. … RB Nate Lennon has run for 509 yards and seven TDs on 68 carries. … Nick Iliano has 26 catches for 484 yards and six TDs, 24 carries for 85 yards and three TDs and completed 12 of 22 passes for 212 yards and four TDs.

Who are the coaches for CVCA and Gilmour football?

CVCA’s Nick Cook is his fourth year leading Royals and has a record of 30-15. Cook has led the Royals to the postseason every season he has been in charge, but he earned his first two playoff wins this season.

Tom Kaufman is in his second year at Gilmour Academy and has a record of 20-4. The Lancers reached the second round of a playoffs in 2023. Before arriving at Gilmour, Kaufman spent most of his coaching career in the college ranks, including a stint as Kent State University’s defensive coordinator from 2018-21.

What’s next for the winner of CVCA-Gilmour football?

The Division III, Region 5 final awaits, to be played Nov. 22 at a site to be determined. The winner will play the winner of the Aurora-Youngstown Ursuline game in the final.
