Big second half keeps Michigan State women’s basketball unbeaten

A strong second half helped the Michigan State women’s basketball team remain unbeaten Thursday night.

The Spartans pulled away in the final 20 minutes while recording a 96-54 victory over Eastern Kentucky at Breslin Center.

MSU, which led just 39-35 at the intermission, outscored Eastern Kentucky, 30-12, in the third quarter to break things open. That third quarter was part of a second half in which the Spartans (4-0) outscored EKU 57-19.

Julia Ayrault had a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds while being one of four Spartans to score in double figures. Grace VanSlooten returned to the MSU lineup after missing Monday’s game due to an illness and had 15 points and nine rebounds.

Theryn Hallock added 14 points and freshman Juliann Woodard added 16 points off the bench on 5-of-5 shooting that included knocking down four 3-pointers for the Spartans.
