FOOTBALL: Regular season coming to a close this week

Nov. 6—The final week of the regular season has one team possibly fighting for a district title, while the Anderson County matchup arrives between the Frankston Indians and Cayuga Wildcats.

Here are the week 11 football previews:

Elkhart at New Diana

Time and Date: 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8.

Location: Eagle Stadium, 11826 Hwy 154 E, New Diana, TX 75640

Game Notes: New Diana is 9-0 overall and 5-0 in District 11-3A, Division II, while Elkhart is 3-6 overall and 2-3 in district play. New Diana is averaging 57.5 points per game, while giving up 8.8 points per game this season. Elkhart averages 30.9 points per game, while allowing 32.7 points per contest. New Diana sophomore quarterback Dejuan Johnson leads the way as he has thrown for 1,612 yards with 20 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also ran for 1,053 yards and 16 touchdowns. Senior Jaiydyn Johnson is the top receiver with 29 receptions for 737 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Frankston at Cayuga

Time and Date: 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8.

Location: Scarborough Stadium, 17750 US 287, Cayuga, TX 75832.

Game Notes: Cayuga is 4-5 overall and 2-2 in District 8-2A, Division I play, while the Frankston Indians currently hold the No. 2 seed in the playoffs at 3-1 in district and 6-3 overall. The contest between the two schools has been on the minds of both teams since the district schedule was released in the summer. Cayuga has been led in rushing by senior Shiloh Peckham with 116 carries for 809 yards and eight touchdowns, while sophomore quarterback Kase Dickson is third on the team in rushing with 404 yards and seven touchdowns. He has thrown for 416 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. For the Indians, Reese Hicks has led the way with 691 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns, while Braylon Donnell is second on the team with 595 yards rushing and four touchdowns. The all-around athlete A.J. Donnell has 358 yards rushing and eight touchdowns to go with 30 receptions for 769 yards and five touchdowns. He has also thrown for 415 yards and five touchdowns this season.

Grapeland at Lovelady

Time and Date: 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8.

Location: Lion Stadium, 11839 TX 19, Lovelady, TX 75851.

Game Notes: A battle of 7-2 football teams takes place Friday when the Grapeland Sandies battle the Lovelady Lions with teams on big winning streaks heading into the finale. The Lions are on a five-game winning streak as they are undefeated in District 11-2A, Division II play. The Sandies have won four straight after dropping a 41-36 contest to Overton, who holds the tiebreaker in the district race for second place. The playoff scenario for the Sandies is as follows: A win by more than 11 points makes them the district champion, a win by less than 11 and they are second and finally a loss and they are third.

Trinidad at Oakwood

Time and Date: 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8.

Location: Panther Memorial Stadium, 388 FCR 331, Oakwood, TX 75855.

Game Notes: Oakwood is 4-5 overall and 2-0 in District 12-A, Division II play, while Trinidad is 2-7 overall and 0-2 in district play heading into the finale. The Panthers have wrapped up a playoff spot, while the Trojans have been eliminated from postseason play. The Trojans come into the finale averaging 37.1 points per game, while allowing 54.1 points a game defensively. In comparison, Oakwood is scoring 41.6 points offensively, while giving up 46.6 points defensively.
