Tennessee (1-0) opened its 2024-25 women’s basketball season on Tuesday at Food City Center. The Lady Vols defeated Samford, 101-53.
Tuesday’s contest also marked the beginning of the Kim Caldwell era at Tennessee. She is the fourth Tennessee women’s basketball head coach during the NCAA era, joining Pat Summitt, Holly Warlick and Kellie Harper.
Junior forward Zee Spearman led Tennessee with 25 points against Samford. Jewel Spear, Ruby Whitehorn, Samara Spencer and Talaysia Cooper also scored 10-plus points for the Lady Vols.
Tennessee totaled 40 bench points, 54 points in the paint, 50 points off turnovers, 31 second chance points and 36 fast break points.
9,515 were in attendance at Food City Center.
Tennessee will next play on Thursday versus UT Martin. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. EST (SEC Network+).
