What should happen with UFC 310 following Belal Muhammad’s injury withdrawal from his UFC welterweight title fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov?
That’s the question on everyone’s mind as the December 7 pay-per-view approaches without a main event. Rakhmonov reiterated his call for the creation of an interim title Monday on Uncrowned’s “The Ariel Helwani Show,” arguing that a fight between himself and former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman makes the most sense as a replacement headliner. Rakhmonov contended that Muhammad’s injury — a bone infection in his toe — may sideline the champ for longer than expected and the idea of a champion vs. champion unification match would only make the bout bigger upon Muhammad’s return.
“I believe there is a worthy opponent available. I’m ready to save the card if it’s for the interim belt,” Rakhmonov said.” I believe [Kamaru] Usman is the worthy opponent who is going to be ready to jump in to face me.”
But is that the right call? Ariel Helwani and The Boys In The Back debated whether the creation of an interim belt for UFC 310 is the best move forward on Monday’s show, which can be watched below.
