New Mexico State football: Abraham Montaño ties school record with 57-yard field goal

by admin

New Mexico State senior kicker Abraham Montaño tied a school record with a 57-yard field goal against Florida International on Tuesday evening.

The Aggie went 40 yards from their own 20-yard line to the FIU 40-yard line, but stalled out after a pass from senior quarterback Brandon Nunez to junior wide receiver PJ Johnson III only earned three yards on third-and-six. NM State then sent out the field goal team to convert the long kick from the left hash.

The kick is a career-long for Montaño. The Fresno State transfer has made all 12 of his extra points and has only missed one of his 11 field goals this season, also from 57 yards out. Montaño is 4-for-5 on field goals from 50 yards or longer in 2024.

Currently, the Aggies (2-5, 1-3 Conference USA) trail the Panthers (2-6, 1-3 CUSA) 7-6 at halftime.
