LHSAA seeks moment of silence for longtime coach Charles Baglio at Friday football games

The LHSAA distributed a release Thursday requesting a moment of silence at Friday football games honoring former Independence High School football coach Charles “Coach Bags” Baglio, who was killed recently in a traffic accident.

“We respectfully request that you honor the legacy of Charles “Coach Bags’ Baglio with a moment of silence,” the release stated. “Coach Bags was a pillar of the Louisiana High School Coaches Association and the LHSAA dedicating decades of service to our community.”

According to reports, the 81-year-old Baglio, was struck by a truck on US Hwy 51 near Independence on the shoulder of a road after he exited his vehicle last Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Former Independence coach Charles Baglio, 81, died recently in an traffic accident. The LHSAA is asking for a moment of silence in his honor.

Baglio coached high school football for 34 years and was also a former LSU staffer, serving as director of external operations for LSU football. He posted a 77% win rate at Independence with 206 victories in 22 years. He has been named to the LHSAA and the NHSACA Halls of Fame. He served on the LHSAA executive committee at one point and helped shape the LHSCA.

“Coach Bags’ legacy is defined not just by his achievements, but by the relationships he built and the lives he touched,” the LHSAA said.
