North Carolina’s women’s team is ready to kick off their season on November 4th at 11:00 a.m. ET against Charleston Southern at home. They have eight games on the schedule this season against preseason Top 25-ranked teams.
That includes non-conference contests against No. 2 UConn at home and No. 22 Kentucky at home. Their conference schedule is packed playing No. 11 Duke twice, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 9 NC State, No. 17 Louisville, and No. 19 Florida State.
Two weeks ago, the preseason Women’s AP Poll was released with the top 25 ranked teams, putting North Carolina as the No. 15 ranked team in the country. They are the fourth-highest-ranked Atlantic Coast Conference team.
Today, the USA TODAY Sports Coaches’ Poll was released for women’s college basketball, and UNC women’s basketball was ranked lower than they were on the AP Poll, coming in at No. 16 on the coaches’ poll.
Only three schools received first-place votes including South Carolina, UConn, and Southern California. UNC was again the fourth-ranked ACC team.
The coaches’ poll is made up of 31 head coaches from Division I institutions who are all members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Some of the highlight coaches on this year’s panel include Denise Dillon from Villanova, Bill Fennelly from Iowa State, Johnni Harris from Auburn, Shawn Poppie from Clemson, and Coquese Washington from Rutgers.
