Texas basketball star Madison Booker earns All-American acknowledgement before season

by admin

With the start of the basketball season just weeks away, Texas sophomore Madison Booker has earned a rare honor.

The Associated Press announced on Tuesday that Booker had been voted onto its preseason All-American team. Booker was joined on the preseason honor roll by UConn’s Paige Bueckers, Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo and the USC tandem of JuJu Watkins and Kiki Iriafen. Booker, Hidalgo and Watkins are all entering their sophomore seasons.

According to Texas, Booker is the first-ever Longhorns to be named an AP preseason All-American. The AP first released a preseason team for women’s basketball ahead of the 1994-95 season. Since then, five Longhorns have earned All-American accolades for their work during a season.

A second-team All-American last season, Booker averaged 16.5 points and 5.0 assists per game while replacing an injured Rori Harmon as UT’s point guard. With Harmon cleared to play this season, the 6-foot-1 Booker will return to her natural position on the wing.

This is the second time this preseason that the AP has recognized Texas. Earlier this month, Texas earned the No. 4 spot in the AP’s preseason poll.

Texas will host its Orange-White Scrimmage this Thursday and an exhibition game against UT-Tyler on Oct. 31. The 2024-25 season for UT is set to tip off on Nov. 10. One of the games on the Longhorns’ schedule is a trip on Dec. 5 to visit Hidalgo and Notre Dame.
