Years After Opposing Donald Trump, Bubba Wallace Dismisses Politics in NASCAR as ‘Waste of Time’

Politics has always been a sensitive topic, whether it comes to running the country or NASCAR. In the past, Bubba Wallace was politically active on social media, especially during the George Floyd riots. His tweets in 2020 show that Wallace was not in favor of the Trump administration. However, when Wallace spoke about Trump’s administration, he faced accusations of “bringing politics into NASCAR.”

Unlike last time, Bubba Wallace has not been as politically active on social media. With the 2024 elections right around the corner, Wallace has changed his stance on being politically active on social media, and here is why.

Why Bubba Wallace isn’t keen on talking politics like he did in 2020

In 2020, when American Elections were on the horizon, Wallace voiced his political opinions in the world of NASCAR. A leading voice in the Black Lives Matter Movement, he dealt with issues inside NASCAR. This was when a rope tied with a noose was found in his garage at the Talladega Superspeedway. The following FBI investigation confirmed the noose was real, but concluded it wasn’t a hate crime. Although his NASCAR colleagues came out in support of Wallace, there was criticism from former President Donald Trump, who asked for an apology for the “hoax”. Keeping this in mind, most in the NASCAR community thought Wallace might use social media to speak about political issues once again.

As the 2024 elections come closer, Bubba Wallace‘s Instagram doesn’t have any political posts. He clarified, when Fox News Digital asked about the matter, “Investing my time into that seems like a waste of time. I was definitely more vocal then because our sport was in desperate need of change.” To an extent, Wallace’s ask of NASCAR to change and grow did take place with 23XI Racing. When Michael Jordan signed Bubba Wallace, it meant a Black team owner racing with a team that had a Black driver.

However, Wallace used the platform to encourage fans to help people. When asked if he had a message for his fans, the No. 23 Driver simply plugged in his sponsor, saying, “Go to McDonald’s, buy a meal, get the 10-piece chicken nugget, fries, Dr. Pepper, and then round up that money; all of that money goes to [Ronald McDonald House Charities].” Bubba Wallace’s idea remains simple; using simple parts of a fan’s day to make people’s lives better.

“My beliefs stand strong in just being good humans to other people is the best way to go about life,” said Wallace only to further add, “No matter what side you’re on, no matter what color you are, at the end of the day we’re in this world together and we have to make it work together. And I think I’ve said that from day one, and that hasn’t changed, nor will it change.”

Being publically political has its repercussions and with a family by his side, Wallace revealed that his priorities have changed ever since he became a father. However, on a serious note, after the sponsor plug, Wallace did make his outlook on politics public.

How has Bubba Wallace’s relationship with social media changed since becoming a father?

“Social media nowadays is just a way for people to hide behind a screen and voice their opinions on things they don’t really know about,” said Bubba Wallace in a statement. According to the 23XI Racing driver, he received a lot of negative feedback on his political stance on social media before realizing that being public about his views doesn’t matter much to him anymore.

Bubba Wallace also cleared political posts from his social media accounts. He posts only racing pictures, photos of his family, and promotional posts for his sponsors. Justifying his action, Wallace went on to say, “It’s just too much negativity that it’s going to take years and years and years to get rid of, and we don’t have time for that,” Bubba Wallace explained his current stance on social media. Wallace even went as far as deleting social media apps on his phone for a while, focusing on his NASCAR career.

Additionally, being a father has changed his approach to life, as he further said, “Now, with being a dad and trying to be the best that I can be here for my race team and my team here, that’s where I’m investing my energy, so that’s all you can really ask for.” Ever since Becks Hayden Wallace has blessed Bubba and Amanda Carter with his presence, the driver who couldn’t make it into the playoffs has been performing quite well, as he managed to score two top-10 finishes in the three races since his son’s birth.

Wallace concluded his stance on being politically public, saying that he has a kid and a family now to provide for, so now it seems “crazy to go through all that.”
