Chase Briscoe’s NASCAR Playoff hopes ended Sunday in the Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte when his Stewart-Hass No. 14 Ford experienced mechanical issues.
Briscoe, who won at Darlington in the regular season, came into the race in 12th place and a longshot to advance to the round of eight with 3,029 points.
Briscoe had brought out a caution earlier in the race when his right-rear tire went flatt. His crew was able to get him back on the track at that point.
However, Briscoe reported to his crew on the radio after that he was having trouble keeping up with the drivers around him because of problems with his engine.
Crew chief Richard Boswell replied, “Obviously, we didn’t bring you a good enough race car.”
Briscoe, who started at 25th Sunday, finished 30th last week at Talladega and 24th the week before at Kansas.
“It’s tough,” Briscoe said. “To have all that momentum come to an end and have it come to an end how it did, it’s tough. We felt like if we could get through this round, we thought we could get there. We have a chance to win four more races, those tracks are good for us. Obviously wish we were racing for a championship still.”
