Army football wins award from Mannings

When you think of the Manning family and quarterbacks, that’s a pretty good combination.

Army’s Bryson Daily may not have that ESPN and commercial appeal of brothers Peyton and Eli just yet, but he can claim a tie to their namesake. On Wednesday, Daily was named the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Daily won a social media fan vote with seven other quarterback candidates from across the country.

Daily was perfect on five throws for 140 yards in Saturday’s 49-7 rout of Tulsa, completing a pair of scores to Noah Short. He also kept up his reputation as the most productive and rugged rushing quarterback in the land, gaining 110 yards and tacking on two more scores, raising his league-leading season total to 10. He leads the American Athletic Conference at 120.4 rushing yards per game, ranking No. 8 in the nation.

Army quarterback Bryson Daily (13) looks to pass against Temple during the first half at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sept. 26, 2024.

Daily won in a Manning vote that included Eli Holstein (Pittsburgh); Will Howard (Ohio State); Tyler Huff (Jacksonville State); Kevin Jennings (Southern Methodist); Kyle McCord (Syracuse); Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt); and, Cam Ward (Miami, Fla.).

The previous winners this season are Owen McCown of Texas San Antonio; Nico Iamaleava of Tennessee; Kurtis Rourke of Indiana; Alonza Barnett III of James Madison; and, Hunter Watson of Sam Houston.

For his efforts against Tulsa, Daily was named the AAC offensive player of the week and earned his second weekly recognition of the season to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 list. Daily was added to the O’Brien midseason Watch List for postseason honors, to be released Oct. 22.

The Manning Award is presented following the National Championship.

Army hosts Alabama Birmingham (UAB) at noon Saturday on CBS Sports Network.
