The Southeastern Conference dominated the top five of national polls through the first five weeks of the 2024 college football season.

That will no longer be the case following a wild Week 6 that saw two of the conference’s top three teams upset on the road.

The biggest shocker of all came in Nashville, where unbeaten, top-ranked Alabama fell 40-35 to Vanderbilt, which dominated the time of possession 42:08 to Alabama’s 17:52. The Crimson Tide never led in the game, which became Vanderbilt’s first ever victory over an AP No. 1 team in 61 tries.

Elsewhere in the state, Josh Heupel and the Vols had arguably their worst offensive performance of the season as Arkansas downed No. 4 Tennessee 19-14 to give the team its first loss of the season. That’s to say nothing of No. 9 Missouri, which was the first team to drop from the ranks of the unbeaten after getting dominated 41-10 by No. 21 Texas A&M in College Station.
