Nascar’s Rival Netflix Series To ‘Drive To Survive’ Series Set For 2025 Return

Nascar will be making an attempt to compete with Formula 1 on the Netflix screen for the second year in a row.

The stock racing world will be featured in Netflix’s “Full Speed” in 2025, highlighting exciting storylines and going behind-the-scenes with drivers throughout the 2024 Nascar Playoffs.

Nascar announced a major partnership with Words + Pictures, which is creating Full Speed Entertainment. The partnership will enable Nascar Studios and Words + Pictures to expand upon the Netflix series by creating additional documentaries, series, studio shows, podcasts and more.

“Early into the Full Speed process, I knew we wanted to find more ways to collaborate and capitalize on new opportunities for Nascar as cultural demand for compelling sports stories continues to grow,” Tim Clark, Nascar’s executive vice president and chief brand officer, said in a statement. “Words + Pictures is the premier storyteller in the sports content space, and Connor’s team excels in not just generating big ideas and visions, but executing them in ways that captivate big audiences.”

Words + Pictures was founded by Connor Schell, who created the famous “30 for 30” series on ESPN.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be expanding our partnership with Nascar with Full Speed Entertainment,” Schell, the CEO of Words + Pictures, said. “The first season of Full Speed was a really rewarding project for our company, and it was a thrill to work side-by-side with Nascar Studios every step of the way. The opportunity to bring audiences more great racing content and collaborate with Nascar opens a wealth of possibilities we can’t wait to get working on.”

Nascar made a full-swing attempt last year to have a Netflix series, seeing the immense success of “Drive to Survive.” Previously, there were Nascar docuseries on USA Network and MotorTrend, both of which had a positive reaction but a limited reach.

With Nascar’s new TV rights deal, which includes races on Amazon Prime and B/R Sports Add-On on Max (in addition to TNT), the Netflix partnership enhances the sport’s direct-to-consumer content. Amazon and B/R Sports will likely also have their own Nascar content, giving fans old and new more ways to learn about their favorite drivers and teams.
