The rumble and roar of the Kansas Speedway track will shake the ground around Kansas City, Kansas, this weekend as fans roll into town to enjoy the NASCAR Cup Series races, which run Friday night through Sunday evening.Fans set up camp, filled the RV spaces, and built elevated perches from which to watch all the earth-shaking action on the 1.5-mile speedway track.”I’m a rookie. I know nothing about NASCAR. It looked like a really good time,” said Dan Osberg, a visitor from Minnesota. Osberg said he loves his first trip to the Speedway and the camaraderie between new, “next-door” neighbors camping next to him. Fans shared food, drinks, and a lot of NASCAR stories from races past. Jody Marie also made the eight-hour drive from Minnesota.”I see flags flying, cars everywhere. I love it, I love it,” Marie said. The winning drivers of the biggest race of the weekend, the Hollywood Casino 400, can walk away with a total combined purse of over $9 million. The stakes aren’t so intense in the world of fan tailgating, so fans say the pressure is off and it is time to enjoy a ground-thundering good time.
